'He's obsessed with my husband': Pawrent's cats spot a 5-week-old kitten in the backyard, discover he's partially blind, then watches the rescue mission become a love story as the kitten becomes smitten with her husband

What's the biggest green flag a guy can have? Being loved by cats. There is no other answer.

There are a lot of good qualities to look for in a partner. Some people really value bravery and courage - someone who will stand up for others to help the people they care about feel safe. Others will search for a partner who is a provider. But when I was looking for my purrfect partner, there was one thing that I knew I needed in order for it to be right - he needed to be loved by cats. Not just someone who loves cats, but someone that felines instinctively feel is approachable and trustworthy. 

For all of us who have lived with and know cats, you know how rare a purrsonality trait that is. That purrson needs to be soft and inviting, but not a pushover. They need to be compassionate and kind, and have a belief that even the smallest creatures are worthy of our love. I knew my husband was the one when, the first time he met my cat (I only had one back then), she immediately went up and laid on his lap. She's not purrticularly fond of strangers, and usually hides when someone new enters the house. She was curious and trusted him within seconds of meeting him.

These kinds of men are rare, but if you find one as a cat purrson, you know they're already leagues above most other guys. And, thanks to the kitten rescue video posted on @jacnpat's Instagram page, we can safely say that we found another one. A pawrent's cats found a 5-week-old kitten in their backyard, and were thankfully able to rescue him. Naming him Bjorn, they realized he was half-blind and desperately in need of some help. What helped baby Bjorn feel safe and comfortable, nearly immediately? Her husband. He became obsessed with him instantly.

Their rescue mission turned into the most wholesome love story, and it's just beautiful to watch. Scroll down to watch these hoomans and their feline family welcome Bjorn into their hearts and home!

  • Cats form an opinion about a purrson surprisingly fast. It usually isn't that they can sense a “good person" - they're rapidly combining body language, smell, sound, previous experience, and their own temperament. 

    A few major factors seem to matter:

    How much control the purrson gives them. Cats generally respond better to people who don't immediately reach for them, stare at them, pick them up, or invade their space. The second thing is body language. Someone who crouches rather than towers, moves slowly, keeps their hands relaxed, and looks away periodically is less threatening, therefore, easier to trust from a cat's purrspective.

    The third is their voice and energy level. Cats have extremely sensitive hearing, so loud voices, abrupt meowvements, laughter, stomping, or excited attempts to interact can be intimidating to a feline. We also can't rule out smell because cats can absolutely distinguish between hoomans by scent. So a strong perfume or cologne might be off-putting to a cat. 

    And finally, there is always their purrsonality to take into account. Some cats are more trusting and adventurous than others, whereas others are more timid and less bold. All these things combined make up how much a cat trusts you.

  • Half-blind or not, Bjorn is lucky to have found this family. They are sure to welcome him with open arms, paws, and hearts. He chose the right backyard to stumble into!

    Honestly "feel safe again" is so overstated. This baby has never felt safe until the moment you took him in. Thank you for caring for him, he is beautiful! I hope you keep him!
